A broad mixture of visible wavelengths approaches the prism as one apparent ray.

Sevenfold Light
The Prism Spectrum.
One white ray enters a triangular prism and opens into seven drawn bands. This exhibit preserves the source CAD coordinates while using glow, timing, and particles to make refraction legible as a living sequence.

01 / Optical principle
One field.
Different bends.
A prism does not manufacture color. It separates wavelengths already carried by the incident light.
The glass refracts each wavelength by a slightly different amount because its refractive index varies with wavelength. In ordinary visible dispersion, longer red wavelengths bend less while shorter blue and violet wavelengths bend more. The first surface begins the separation; the second surface increases the angular spread.
Changing speed in glass redirects the ray, with wavelength-dependent differences.
The exit surface spreads the continuous spectrum into a visible fan.
02 / The sevenfold convention
A continuous field,
given seven names.
The visible spectrum is continuous, not divided by physical seams. Seven familiar color names provide a memorable reading system—historically strengthened by Newton’s analogy between spectral colors and the seven notes of a musical scale.
A useful distinction: magenta is not a single spectral wavelength. It is a perceptual color produced by combined long- and short-wavelength stimulation. The exhibit retains magenta because the source DXF uses it as its seventh design band; this is faithful to the drawing, not a claim that magenta is monochromatic light.
03 / Reading the construction
Geometry directs
the visual story.
The incoming line establishes direction, before-and-after contrast, and the single-to-multiple transition.
Three original vertices define the glass body. The luminous fill and spectral sheen are display treatments layered over that exact outline.
Every colored path begins at the same source point, then passes through its own intermediate control point before reaching its endpoint.
Light and sound both admit spectrum-based descriptions, but the analogy has limits: optical wavelength and acoustic frequency operate through different physical media and mechanisms.

Source geometry
and interpretation.
The incident line, triangular prism, seven polylines, their vertices, and their source color order are preserved from the supplied CAD study.
The beam widths, glow, particles, timing, glass shading, and stars are exhibition design. The diagram communicates the principle of dispersion but is not a wavelength-accurate optical simulation.
