What is claimed, and what is not. The binaural beat itself is real, measurable auditory science: two tones a few hertz apart, one per ear, produce a perceived pulse at their difference. Whether such pulses shift brain states in a lasting way — the "entrainment" of meditation lore — has mixed and limited evidence, so this chamber promises only what it can keep: a steady, gentle place to sit. If pulsing sound is ever uncomfortable, simply stop.

Why humming? Two things are on solid ground: humming markedly increases nitric oxide in the nasal passages — a measured, published physiological effect — and any practice that lengthens the exhale leans the nervous system toward its parasympathetic, rest-and-settle side. That is why the Hum voice is tuned low and the breath ring exhales longer than it inhales.

The vagus nerve, honestly. The popular idea that humming "tones the vagus nerve" — the great wandering nerve of the calm response — is a promising reading of small early studies on humming, chanting, and heart-rate variability, not yet a settled fact. We label it the way this cathedral labels everything: a beautiful hypothesis worth sitting inside, held lightly. Hum your exhale along with the Hum voice and judge the stillness for yourself.
