Timbre of the carriersWhat this borrows from the Gateway lineage. Monroe’s programs have used guided audio and several sound techniques, including binaural beats: differing tones at the two ears can produce the perception of a slow pulse. “Focus” numbers in that lineage describe reported experiential stages. The frequencies assigned to the buttons above are HelioSynth’s creative listening presets, not official Monroe settings and not validated outcomes.
What is measured, perceived, and still uncertain. Carrier frequencies, physical amplitude modulation, and stereo motion are specified in the generated signal. A binaural beat is different: it is an auditory percept produced by dissimilar tones at the two ears. Evidence that such listening reliably creates matching brain-state changes is mixed. Reports of expanded consciousness or out-of-body states remain personal claims, and a 1983 U.S. Army assessment later released through government archives was analysis—not proof. This instrument makes no medical or therapeutic claim. If anything feels unpleasant, stop immediately.
Why the golden ratio? Whole-number ratios can return to a shared period. In the ideal mathematical model, φ-related frequencies have no exact shared period; this digital instrument is a finite approximation. The result is a restless, non-repeating-seeming spectrum that can be compared directly with octave and fifth stacks.
